چکیده

Before starting this module, it is assumed that the student is familiar with the crystalline nature of metals and alloys, and understands the terms interstitial, vacancy, substitutional solid solution, binary alloy. References are made to the equilibrium vacancy concentration and it is preferable that this concept had been encountered, although backup is available both through the glossary and via hyperlinks to other modules. Solutions to Fick's laws are stated where applicable, but the mathematical derivations (most of which require a knowledge of partial differential equations) are not given. It is also recommended that the user has at least a basic understanding of metallurgical thermodynamics, and that the Gibbs’ free energy relationship ∆G=∆H-T∆S is known.

Atomic diffusion modeling and Investigation of joining properties of TLP in AA2024 to AA6061 alloys

In this study, to bond AA2024 and AA6061 alloys to each other, three elements (Sn, Zn and Ga)  were considered as interlayer elements in terms of atomic diffusion depth in the base metal and storage at 453°C for 2 days, 10 hours, 210 minutes, and 30 seconds that they were examined for atomic diffusion modeling. Finally, the two alloys were connected at a temperature of 453°C in a furnace enviro...

Drugs/Antibiotics as potential corrosion inhibitors for Metals - A Review

Corrosion protection of metals and alloys is a prime activity of technical, economic, environmental, and aesthetical significance. The use of inhibitors is one of the best choice of combating metals and alloys against detoriation against environmental impact. The toxicity of organic and inorganic corrosion inhibitors to the environment has provoked the search for ecofriendly corrosion inhibitor...

Surface and subsurface hydrogen: adsorption properties on transition metals and near-surface alloys.

Periodic, self-consistent DFT-GGA calculations are used to study the thermochemical properties of both surface and subsurface atomic hydrogen on a variety of pure metals and near-surface alloys (NSAs). For surface hydrogen on pure metals, calculated site preferences, adsorption geometries, vibrational frequencies, and binding energies are reported and are found to be in good agreement with avai...

Concentration Fluctuations in Liquid Alloys of Alkali Metals from Semiempirical Theories of Mixtures

The semiempirical theories of mixtures developed by van Laar, Margules, Scatchard-Hamer, Wilson and Renon and Prausnitz are used to study the concentration fluctuations of binary liquid alloys formed among the alkali metals. Examination of the fitting capabilities of these theories leads to the conclusion that those of van Laar, Scatchard-Hamer and Renon and Prausnitz are appropriate both when ...
